Juneathon 2014 – Days 29 and 30 – Diseased With Juneathonitis

As is usual for a Sunday, my exercise was a walk to Tesco and back. But guess what I did on the last day? On the last day, I was diagnosed with Juneathonitis. Okay, so the word the doctor used was shingles, not Juneathonitis, but he said it can be brought on by physical exertion so I’m diagnosing myself with Juneathonitis, especially as that sounds better than shingles, which sounds like some kind of Victorian plague.

So, that’s Juneathon finished for another year. Well done everyone for your efforts and I hope you enjoyed it. I’ve got an extra week to do but I think it’ll be restricted to walking.

Juneathon 2014 – Days 27 and 28 – Walking and Running

Yesterday, I walked to the station. I know what you’re thinking – you’re thinking, ‘Hang on, just because you’re the Queen of Athons, that doesn’t mean you can go round making rules like “walking to the station” count for Juneathon.’ Well, actually, because I am the Queen of Athons, it does mean I can go round making rules up willy nilly but yesterday’s walk to the station counts. It counts because the station is over two miles away and I could have cycled or got a bus but no, I walked it for Juneathon. So there.

Today, I ran three and a half miles, although I am still being feeble and walking most of my runs. I have told myself, next time I do a parkrun, I’m not going to walk any of it, not even the hilly bit.

So, just a couple of days left! For you lot, anyway. I’ve got another week to do as I told my uni friend, Shelby, she could start Juneathon a week late because she was on holiday the first week and if she exercised every day and blogged properly each day up to the end of June, I’d do the extra week with her for moral support. I actually thought she wouldn’t last the month but I clearly underestimated her as she appears to be doing brilliantly. I have asked my deputy, Helen, to be the independent adjudicator and thoroughly check Shelby’s blog for any signs of slacking to see if I can get out of my extra week. I don’t think she’s going to find anything though, dammit.

Juneathon 2014 – Day 23 – Top of the Fitbit Leaderboard

My days are usually extremely sedentary when it comes to putting one foot in front of the other, so it’s been a bit of a surprise to find myself at the top of my Fitbit leaderboard the last few days. This is despite my Fitbit’s best efforts to boot me back down to my rightful place near the bottom by running out of battery yesterday morning, therefore only logging 32 steps and not noticing any of the sixty-four miles I cycled yesterday (it doesn’t actually count cycling but it does give you something towards your steps I think).

Still, I’ll enjoy my no. 1 position while it lasts. I’m mentioning my Fitbit because I just did a 1.91 mile walk for Juneathon to get me some steps in and not just to show off at being top of the leaderboard. Honest.

No slacking for me

I wanted to count walking across the road to the post box as today’s Juneathon, then @jendevaney2 offered me one of her workouts.

So I said, thanks, I’ll take the swim. Then iliketocount came home and asked if I’d Juneathoned and I said I’d been to the post box and he muttered something about not taking it seriously and so I thought I should probably go for a walk and then I decided if I went for a walk I could have a Cornetto (or Tesco’s 4 for £1 version of them, anyway) when I got back.

So that’s what I did. (Except I haven’t had the Cornetto yet.)

The Great Barrow Challenge

great_barrow_challenge_poster

I’ve been trying to think of a challenge to do this year. Shaun and I have considered cycling from Cornwall to Kent (getting the train down to Cornwall, then cycling back) or climbing some more mountains with one of our Three Peaks Challenge mates but we didn’t come to any decision yet.

Then I got an email telling me about The Great Barrow Challenge. I REALLY WANT TO DO THIS.

It’s a four day challenge taking place over 19 September to 22 September and you can choose between:

Walking
Running
Cycling
Or a combination of the above (eg run one day, cycle one day)

Then you choose your distance:

Walk – 6,10,15 or the full 26.2 miles per day
Run – 6,10,15 or the full 26.2 miles per day
Cycle – 30, 60 or the full 120 miles per day

The best thing about this is you can adapt it to whatever you fancy, i.e. you can walk on two days, run the next day and cycle the next day. Or you can do a marathon a day for four days, it’s up to you. Personally, I think I’d like to run the 6 mile route one day and cycle the 30 mile route on each of the other two days and maybe walk a marathon on another day, aarrgghh, too many decisions!)

This is so cool, I really want to do this – anyone else up for it?

Pump it up

This morning I went along to the gym for my usual body pump class where I was very hardcore and used heavier weights and hurrah, my arms didn’t crack on the tricep tracks, so the glucosamine that I’ve started taking again must be doing their thing (or it’s the magic bracelet) and then after body pump I went and did twenty minutes on the rowing machine, then I had planned to do just a mile on the treadmill, although running on the treadmill doesn’t really count as running, but then I decided to do Thru the Gears and then usually on a Friday I go and do spin too but as I have a five mile run tomorrow, I didn’t really want to wear myself out even if it is Juneathon and so I wimped out of doing spin and got changed and then I had to go to the library and I decided to leave my bike where it was and walk the half mile to the library as after all, it is Juneathon, and Juneathon is all about making an extra effort and so I walked to the library and as I passed Top Shop, I saw a sign saying 20% off for students this week and so I went in and saw a stripey t-shirt that I had been eyeing the other day and I tried to work out what 20% off would be and then I saw a t-shirt with Mickey Mouse on it and I wondered if I was too old to wear a t-shirt with Mickey Mouse on it and decided I was and left the shop and opposite was Dorothy Perkins with a sign saying 30% off today and so I went in but there was nothing I liked so I went back into Top Shop and thought fuck it, if I want to wear a t-shirt with Mickey Mouse on it I will and so I bought the Mickey Mouse t-shirt and the stripey t-shirt and with my student discount got £8 off and then I went to the library to collect the books that had been reserved for me and then I strolled back through the town looking at all the teenage girls smoking over their babies and got back to my bike and cycled back.
